HOW WE MET
Our story begins way before we even met, because Ruth was my older brother’s wedding planner. My brother’s wedding was scheduled for September 2019, but plans were underway for a little over a year before that. It’s at that point that my family was introduced to Ruth on a professional level, so as to begin planning for the big day.
At the time, I still lived in Canada, where I was working, and had spent 6 years of my life. Four of those years were spent studying (undergrad) and two of them working. My two years of working were intermingled with the all-too-common diasporian struggle of whether I want to move back home or not. A lot went into the decision to finally move back home in January 2019. Little did I know that one week into being back home, I would meet my soon-to-be wife!
Ruth and I met one sunny afternoon in an office in Kilimani, where my brother was working from at the time. I was one week into my repatriation and my brother was one week away from heading back to the U.S (where he lived). The plan was for him to return that year to get married to his fiancee, here in Kenya. As his best man, he wanted to introduce me to his wedding planner so that we would carry on with the planning while they were away.
At the same time, he hinted that I should take notice of what a wonderful young lady she was.
Despite my brother’s nudging, Ruth and I went on relating purely on a professional basis, with not much interaction throughout 2019. However, once my brother’s wedding festivities were done, I noticed that I had developed a wonderful interest in this beautiful young lady.
The tone of my text messages to Ruth switched up in October 2019, as I intended to begin pursuing something beyond a bestman-planner relationship. I asked her out for a walk at Oloolua Nature Trail in Karen one afternoon and the rest as they say is history.
By God’s grace and providence, we slowly grew deeply in love with each other. A combination of God-centered friendship, shared values and an immense care for one another led to our eventual engagement on 30th August 2020 (Ruth’s birthday!).
Our wedding happened on July 2nd 2021, surrounded by our loved ones from all over the world. We continue to be thankful to God for how he has carried us through all the challenges of building a life together. A life we both acknowledge wouldn’t be worth living apart.

I love me a happy bride, any day. Ruthie was all the way up there. As a bride you carry the day, your energy = wedding day’s energy!
Some good fun with the girls. We were all up dancing in there, chasing away those wedding morning blues and butterflies!
Future brides, you don’t have to do robes for your getting ready pictures, sometimes a little thinking outside the box goes a long, long way
Amazing designer@rynahbyrynah was here as usual to personally dress our drop dead bride. This gown!!!!! you guys just raised that bar a little higher!
Ruthie gave personalised, heart-felt gift boxes to each of her bridesmaids
Daddy & mommy both did the veiling of their daughter. If both folks are around why not? They both got a chance to say a beautiful blessing over their daughter on her wedding day.
Kanyeki’s folks all excited after the handing over. The ‘lesso’ carpet is one of my favourite, with the women throwing around those that are behind them to ensure that the ‘flow’ was not broken
The ceremony set up man!!!!! Looked like something straight out of those fairy tale books. Of course, it was Ruthie’s wedding, it definitely had to be loud!
The mocktails set up overlooking the beautiful lake
It was dance like nobody’s watching, too bad there was a crowd already there
The liveband brought the house down literally
That moment Ruthie had been envisioning since she was a little girl. She had to take a breath before she started that long walk down the aisle. Thanks@rynahbyrynah for making sure she looked the part
Loved this view from the back, can you spot us all struggling to capture that ‘money’ shot
Sawa Bana: I see you. I know you are here. I know who you are, I respect you *Seth Godin
I cannot imagine what was going through Kanyeki’s mind at this point in time, seeing his soon to be wife in all her glory and beauty, walk towards him with dad and mom.
The NewlyWed Post on their wedding day. Loved the creativity with their wedding program.
That moment when the music hits home
My peoples Sam & Kui looking too fresh
If you won’t dance like this on your wedding day please fire your band
You have not truly lived until someone looks at you this way **licks lips!
